As a lead or principal AI engineer on the AI & Infrastructure team, you’ll be at the forefront of driving Progressive’s enterprise AI strategy leading the design, architecture, and execution of the Pygressive Generative AI platform from vision to value realization. As a highly experienced AI engineering leader with a proven track record of architecting and delivering enterprise-scale AI platforms and solutions, you won’t just build—you’ll set direction. You’ll work directly with senior leadership, product owners, and engineering stakeholders to define the roadmap, align priorities, and own the technical strategy and end-to-end implementation of critical AI capabilities. This role is ideal for those who have led complex platform initiatives, understand the demands of federated enterprise environments, and thrive in balancing technical depth with business alignment. You’ll shape key areas like LLM enablement, prompt orchestration, vector search infrastructure, and RAG pipelines, all while ensuring solutions are scalable, secure, and impactful.

Must-have qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree or higher in an Information Technology discipline or related field of study and minimum of five years of work experience designing, programming, and supporting software programs or applications.
• In lieu of degree, minimum of six years related work experience designing, programming, and supporting software programs or applications may be accepted.

Preferred Skills

• 10+ years of experience in AI/ML engineering, platform architecture, or data infrastructure, including ownership of end-to-end solution delivery.
• Proven leadership in driving enterprise AI platform efforts from ideation through production, including LLM architectures, embedding pipelines, and GenAI search/retrieval frameworks; experience partnering with senior leaders, product owners, and cross-functional teams to align AI solutions with business strategy and organizational goals.
• Hands-on expertise with LLM integration frameworks (e.g., LangChain), vector databases (e.g., FAISS, Pinecone), and prompt/embedding design.
• Proficiency developing APIs and AI services with Python, along with experience in ML services, orchestration tools (such as Prefect/Airflow/dbt), and deep experience with containerization (docker, Kubernetes) and scalable microservice architectures.
• Strong background in model deployment and lifecycle management using MLflow, SageMaker, Azure ML, or Vertex AI, including responsible AI practices and model observability.
• Expertise in Infrastructure as Code (IaC), CI/CD, and GitOps workflows (e.g., Terraform, ArgoCD, GitHub Actions, Helm), with a platform engineering mindset focused on reusability and long-term maintainability.

Compensation 

• $144,000-$190,000/year depending on position level and experience
• Gainshare annual cash incentive payment up to 40% to 50% (depending on position level) of your eligible earnings based on company performance
