The VP of Data Engineering for Pluralsight’s Technology Organization, reporting to our CTO, will have direct responsibility for our data engineering and data governance initiatives within Technology.

The successful candidate will lead teams of data engineers and data stewards, setting priorities and empowering the directors in the group with the tools, budget, and communications that are vital for them to deliver high quality and highly available data. The leader of this organization will direct all aspects of an ecosystem of streaming and batch data pipelines for product data and will guide our efforts to improve our product data by applying the data cataloging and quality capabilities we’ve begun developing.

As part of Pluralsight’s Common Services Alliance, this leader will collaborate with the leaders of Data Science / Machine Learning Engineering, Product Management, and Platform Operations to employ data that accelerates effective product development. The organization works to deliver both data products to our subscribers and the analytics that drive our product decisions.

What you’ll own:

  • Leadership of teams focused on data pipelines, data warehousing, streaming data processing.
  • Partnership with product, analytics, data science, and the business to drive our roadmap.
  • Oversight of data pipelines by advancing Pluralsight’s product data quality and maturity - deploying standardized metrics for managing data that can be used to address the root causes of outliers and errors through automation and data quality training.
  • Implementation of data privacy policies and compliance with data protection regulations.
  • Lead data warehousing initiatives to provide consistent, clean, and integrated data that enable executives to use the resulting information to make more informed decisions and drive our sophisticated analytics and AI/ML initiatives.
  • Provide strategic leadership for the identification of opportunities and the development of solutions related to the data engineering lifecycle and championing a data-driven culture.

Experience you’ll need:

Extensive experience as a data professional with groundbreaking data management and governance projects have prepared you for this role. You’ve proven your abilities as a systems thinker to lead large-scale technical and organizational change. Technically trained, inquisitive, and an excellent communicator, you care about quality data, understand business needs, and value empathy.

  • Extensive experience leading and developing data leaders.
  • Consistent track record building strong multi-functional collaborations bacross functions.
  • Extensive experience with shipping and operating cloud data pipelines, with sufficient technical depth to be an active voice in architectural investment decisions.
  • Proven track record to focus on the top objectives and priorities that lead to maximum impact.
  • Experience building data architectures to support data curation, data governance, and data products.
  • Proficient in enterprise data classification, master data management, single-source of truth data, and overall data governance framework implementation.
  • Success building large engineering organizations, demonstrating your excellent technical, business and organizational competence.
