As the Director of Data Analytics at Upstart, you will be responsible for driving understanding and insights relating to our underwriting model’s performance – a critical topic for executive decision-making, and for partners and investors.

Data Analytics responsibilities include:

• Model oversight - analysis and review of underwriting model performance
• Developing performance insights and reporting for investors and lending partners
• Loan cash flow modeling to support fair valuation reporting, and secondary sales
• Bridge between business and machine learning teams, translating requirements and implications ensuring seamless cross-functional collaboration

Operations Analytics responsibilities include:

• In addition to Data Analytics you’ll be responsible for the Operations Analytics team
• This team works with Customer Operations to report on productivity, understand the drivers, and to test and evaluate improvement initiatives

Position Location - This role is available in the following locations: US Remote, San Mateo or Columbus

Travel Requirements - This team has regular on-site collaboration sessions. These occur 5 days per Month/Quarter at one of our office locations. If you need to travel to make these meetups, Upstart will cover all travel related expenses.

How you’ll make an impact:

• Engage with Capital Markets and Lending Partner leads, and key external parties to build understanding of Upstart’s credit performance, and confidence to invest via our platform.
• Partner across Machine Learning, Capital Markets, Lending Partner, and Finance teams to define and execute a strategy to continuously improve our reporting and analytics capabilities.
• Develop our competitive intelligence and strategic pricing capabilities.
• Coach and develop a high performing team of analysts.

What we’re looking for: 

• Minimum qualifications:
  • 10+ years work experience in increasingly senior analytical roles in technology and finance industry
  • 7+ years experience leading & developing large (10+ person) teams of analysts and/or data scientists
  • Experience in credit analytics (risk, pricing, performance)
  • Degree in Economics, Mathematics, Engineering or other quantitative field

• Preferred qualifications:
  • Ability to craft executive-ready narratives around complex business or performance topics, and to successfully influence and drive C-level decision-making
  • Skills in pricing strategy and/or track record of actively managing and optimizing between growth and profitability/margin in a rapidly evolving business environment
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively and in deep partnership with cross-functional colleagues especially in Finance, Product, Data Engineering
  • Experience developing business strategy, and leading strategic planning cycles
  • Skills to navigate and lead a team through periods with changing or competing priorities

At Upstart, your base pay is one part of your total compensation package.  The anticipated base salary for this position is expected to be within this range: $204,000 - $300,000.  Your actual base pay will depend on your geographic location–with our “digital first” philosophy, Upstart uses compensation regions that vary depending on location.  Individual pay is also determined by job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.  Your recruiter can share more about the specific salary range for your preferred location during the hiring process.

In addition, Upstart provides employees with target bonuses, equity compensation, and generous benefits packages (including medical, dental, vision, and 401k). Sales positions generally offer a competitive On Target Earnings (OTE) incentive compensation structure. The salary listed above for sales roles is On Target Earnings which includes both salary and commission, assuming 100% target achievement.
