Each year, 2 billion people across the world are limited by physical pain. By helping people live without pain, they are free to do the things they love most with the people they love—and never miss a moment. This is what we do. We create and design new technologies to solve one of the biggest problems in healthcare: taking care of our Physical Health. Sword Health is the world’s fastest growing digital musculoskeletal (MSK) care provider on a bold mission to free two billion people from acute, chronic, and post-surgical physical pain. Our customers include some of the most progressive Fortune 100 and 500 companies, as well as over 160+ other established businesses across the world.
The Sword program allows members to complete a personalized physical therapy program from the comfort of home, with continued support and supervision from one of our talented Sword specialists. Sword’s personalized care is more effective than traditional standards of care, and has proven to deliver best-in-class clinical results. Since breaking into the market less than two years ago, Sword has worked with insurers, health systems, and employers in the U.S., Canada, Europe, and Australia to make high quality musculoskeletal care accessible to everyone.
This is an opportunity to join Sword during a time of hyper growth and expansion. After our recent $2bn valuation, we’re excited to continue accelerating our impact by scaling with high caliber people with passion, commitment and energy to create and deliver technologies, services and products that drive human progress forward. We welcome you to join our mission, to make a difference on a grand scale and play a pivotal role with a global team at Sword– working alongside great people pioneering novel products and cutting edge technologies.
Sword Health is looking for a Senior Data Scientist to lead the first AI/ML projects of the Predictive Solutions group, which will power the Sword platform from end-to-end. You will design, prototype and test novel clinical and digital interventions and models to predict every aspect of a member’s journey with Sword. You’ll leverage machine learning and deep learning (including recurrent and convolutional neural networks) to predict utilization, outcomes, and engagement across musculoskeletal health and pain conditions. You will be part of a new team at Sword that is helping our business grow to the next level through novel uses of member-level data. You will have a tremendous impact on millions of lives. Read on if you think you've got the right stuff.
What you’ll do:
• Lead data science projects to design, prototype and test novel clinical and digital interventions and models, leveraging machine learning and deep learning (including recurrent and convolutional neural networks) to predict utilization, outcomes, and engagement across musculoskeletal health and pain needs.
• Leverage advanced programming and large datasets towards those ends, including structure and unstructured clinical notes, focused on developing domain expertise in digital health and musculoskeletal care.
• Work and collaborate with internal stakeholders (analytics, marketing, clinical operations, growth) to develop strategies and data science products to solve real world problems by optimizing member outcomes and engagement.
• Work alongside data engineers and product managers to deploy designed and well-tested ML models into practice, helping design appropriate frameworks to test and monitor ongoing model performance (e.g. model drift, data drift) and evaluate true downstream impact on care and operations (beyond predictive performance)
• Provide methodological, statistical, design and analytical guidance for new and ongoing operations and applied research projects.
• Lead our team to implement health risk scoring that unlocks new commercial opportunities
• Partner with business groups in the company to identify opportunities to deploy bespoke models that predict member engagement and create additional models to answer key questions about member behavior that drive product insights and improvements
• Be a founding member of the Predictive Solutions team
About you:
• Experience working with healthcare data especially ClaimsWorking knowledge of SQL as well as statistical packages (such as those in R or Python)
• Minimum 2 years working on multiple projects involving large data sets, including training, testing, and deploying machine learning algorithms into cloud environments, and specific experience with deep learning required (e.g., RNNs, CNNs, etc). Prior experience translating data findings and data science concepts for lay audiences, including the production of presentations for senior-level audiences (excellent verbal and written communication skills) also required.
• Advanced understanding of data science and statistical concepts, computer programming, and their applications to real-world data required. Specifically, strong programming proficiency (e.g., Python, TensorFlow, PyTorch, R, Spark, SQL). Prior experience with code repositories such as git or equivalent is also required.
• Ability to challenge existing ideas and develop and champion new ones that add value to the organization. Ability to analyze problems, issues and opportunities systematically and logically to make decisions that support the mission, vision, values and goals of the organization
• Understand the biases that data collection and sampling can introduce, and know how to design and implement methods that adjust for those biases when possible
• Love to discover how things work through the lens of data, are not intimidated by “messy” data sets, and enjoy communicating your insights to broad audiences
• Ability to communicate data science concepts to non-technical stakeholders
• Experience architecting and building bespoke predictive models
• Knowledge of healthcare (claims) data
• Advanced degree in a related field (MS or PhD)
