About the Job

Life360’s Data, Analytics, Data Science (DAS) Organization is seeking a Sr. Data Platform Engineer with deep experience in large-scale real-time data processing and architecture. This role requires proficiency in Kinesis, Kafka, Spark, Flink or other distributed data processing technologies. The right candidate will have a passion for data ingestion and experience building big-data solutions that are scalable, fault tolerant and highly available. These pipelines are critical to our business and monitoring production production traffic and interactions, this position will be responsible for identifying operational risks and improving the quality and availability of these systems. With over 6 Billion data events a day and a lean team of data professionals, Life360 is a great place for a seasoned engineer to solve challenging problems and make lasting contributions to our data infrastructure.

What You’ll Do

• Architect, implement, and maintain highly available, fault tolerant data processing applications for internal and external customers
• Define repeatable patterns for common real-time streaming applications and use cases at Life360
• Refactoring of existing data processing applications to be more scalable, fault tolerant, and aligned with our supported cloud architectures
• Own data dependencies of NSQ clusters and document data flows for systems observability
• Improve monitoring and reliability of our real-time data feeds
• Implementation of core logging pipelines and refactoring of legacy code written in Go
• Ensure that our CI/CD pipelines are following best practices, including terraform, chef and autoscaling
• Coordinating resources for operational oversight and incident response
• Participate in on-call schedule

What We’re Looking For

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent
• 7+ years as Software Experience on data platform or backend processing architecture
• 5+ years professional experience with Java, Scala or Python
• Strong understanding and production experience with streaming systems like Kafka, Beam, Flink, Kinesis, etc.
• Experience with asynchronous queue systems, NSQ, RabbitMQ, PubSub
• Experience designing, building and refactoring scalable APIs
• Experience with Spark, MapReduce, and Hadoop
• Production experience with containerized applications on AWS (ECS or EKS)
• Ability to manage multiple projects and applications with various technology stacks
• Experience with CI/CD pipelines and Git integration
• Familiarity with Infrastructure as code solutions: Terraform, Ansible, Chef, etc.
