Role:

The Senior Business Intelligence Engineer provides technical expertise and direction in developing and supporting an enterprise business intelligence platform, interfacing with the various business units across the organization on the reporting requirements. The Senior BI Engineer leads in helping business partners convert data into actionable insights. S/he partners with business leadership across all domains to implement state-of-the-art systems for information delivery and consumption, including data exploration, data visualization, embedded and real-time reporting and analytics. In addition, this position collaborates with business users to determine business requirements, priorities, definition of key performance indicators, and work with delivery partners to design and implement logical and physical data-model.

S/he is also responsible for defining Analytics and Reporting strategy, technology roadmap, production support and maintenance of the BI environment, and works with the team on system performance optimization and interoperability issues. Above all, this individual makes certain that the reporting solutions meet business objectives and establishes and maintains a high level of user trust and confidence in the BI group’s knowledge of diagnostic and descriptive information delivery.

This individual must also demonstrate a willingness and ability to represent a team in the SAFe agile development process.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead BI Competency center at Crown Castle. Establish governance best practices across LOBs
  • Manages the innovation pipeline, overseeing the process of idea generation, prioritization, and business case development and execution plan
  • Designs and conducts the development, implementation, and execution of multiple strategic research efforts leveraging various sources of information (e.g., customer insights, competitive intelligence, industry trends, external engagements) to inform innovation opportunities and priorities
  • Develops and manages the business case for multiple high-value, transformational innovation opportunities in partnership with business and functional stakeholders
  • Presents findings and recommendations to senior leadership and gains buy in for actionable business plans that address complex business problems
  • Partners with senior management, strategy leaders and strategic planning team in executing objectives and expanding the business by providing industry intelligence and analysis
  • Leads cross-functional and business unit innovation efforts with a goal of increasing connectivity, information sharing, and collaboration as well as fostering a culture of innovation
  • Develop rapid prototyping to facilitate requirements and design discussions.
  • Contribute and evangelize the execution of self-service reporting and analytics strategy, in alignment with leadership priorities, business stakeholder requirements, and business unit requirements.
  • Provide reporting and analytical support to business units and support cross-functional projects by translating complex data from multiple data sources into coherent reports and dashboards to highlight key themes, findings, and business implications
  • Meet with decision makers, data owners, and end users to define reporting requirements and goals; develop reporting procedures, models and protocols.
  • Develop routines and procedures for end-users to facilitate best practices use of reporting tools.
  • Conduct research and make recommendations on enhancements and standards for the business intelligence reporting environment.
  • Assist in the development and definition of documentation and standards for the reporting environment.
  • Be the change agent for self-service reporting – provide periodic training and run BI education clinics within Crown Castle.

Education/Certifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or other engineering discipline required; equivalent experience is acceptable
  • Power BI Professional certification is preferred

Experience/Minimum Requirements:

  • 8+ years overall experience working hands on with BI and reporting tools
  • 5+ years of experience in the design, administration, programming, and support of an enterprise reporting environment using the Power BI, business intelligence platform.
  • Experience in developing strategy and roadmap
  • Thorough understanding of the Power BI and Power platform architecture

  • A big picture thinker who fluidly moves between strategic and tactical tasks
  • Ability to focus on both the big picture of BI at Crown Castle as well as get into the nitty gritty of a project
  • Proven experience writing technical requirements analysis, business process modeling/mapping, and data modeling
  • Considerable exposure to the operation and analysis of relational database software and standards. Oracle SQL coding skills with particular attention given to detail and accuracy
  • Ability to work in a team-oriented, collaborative environment, good interpersonal skills
  • Ability to weigh various suggested technical solutions against the original business needs and choose the most cost-effective solution
  • Ability to effectively prioritize and execute tasks in a high-pressure environment
  • Keen attention to detail and ability to access impact of design or coding changes prior to implementation
  • Excellent analytical and creative problem-solving skills

Working Conditions:  Works in a normal office setting with no exposure to adverse environmental conditions. Provide 24x7 on-call support in a predefined rotation.

For New York City, Colorado, California and Washington residents - The hiring range offered for this position is $118,000 - $169,600 annually. In addition to salary, employees are eligible for an annual bonus of up to 20% of annual salary and restricted stock. Employees (and their families) are eligible for medical, dental, vision, and basic life insurance. Employees are able to enroll in our company’s 401k plan. Employees will also receive 18 days of paid time off each year and 12 paid holidays throughout the calendar year.
