Position Overview 

Brightcove seeks an ambitious full stack data engineer to join Brightcove Labs and build the future of online video. As a critical member of our machine learning and artificial intelligence teams, this individual will be responsible for building out APIs for internal data marts and visualization tools for machine learning models and analytics to make both our data and models more accessible to everyone across the company. As a premier video delivery platform, Brightcove works at large scale with both our video on demand and live offerings, which means that the solutions you will build need to be both performant and scalable to serve the needs of our diverse customer base.

This role works on the Chief Data Officer’s team to build and deliver a data and machine learning driven future for our customers. You’ll be directly designing the systems to serve data, models, and model output to our internal and external customers. If you’ve got a passion for data visualization on cutting edge machine learning or want to build frameworks for executing and monitoring these models across multiple different clouds, this is a great opportunity for you.

This position is an individual contributor role without formal people management responsibilities - but it will play a critical role in helping to define the culture of working with data to drive AI and ML inside of Brightcove. This means not only understanding the technology, but being able to justify why the adoption of that technology will be able to drive Brightcove forward.

Job Responsibilities

  • Work with a dynamic team reporting up to the Chief Data Officer to make create a variety of machine learning models and systems to unlock the power of machine learning on video to Brightcove’s customers
  • Work across product teams to understand the sources of data, get it cataloged, and create pipelines to make the data accessible to machine learning engineers, data analysts, and other members of the Brightcove team
  • Create reproducible and automatable pipelines for transforming data to serve our machine learning engineers
  • Provide expert advice to our technical architecture guild about the best practices for building data systems
  • Build reference implementation for a corporation wide data lake.
  • Serve as one of our subject matter experts in defining Brightcove’s future directions around AI and ML.

Qualifications/Experience 

  • 2 years experience in Python, Scala, JavaScript, TypeScript, or Java
  • 2 years of data engineering experience on a major cloud provider (AWS, GCP, Azure)
  • Experience with data visualization tools such as d3, matplotlib, bokeh, ggplot, etc.
  • Knowledge of Linux and containerization
  • Good knowledge of SQL
  • A relentless focus on using technology to drive organizational change by bringing in AI/ML solutions to enterprises.
  • Outstanding written and verbal communication skills.

**Special Conditions

  • Degree in computer science, statistics, physics, engineering, mathematics or other heavily technical discipline.
  • Experience with translating the latest research findings into shippable products.
  • Prior experience working with machine learning models
  • Experience with designing scalable data systems.
  • Experience with Kubernetes
