The work of the Division of Oncology bridges the worlds of basic science, clinical diagnosis and the treatment of cancer. Our basic investigative activities concentrate on immunology, genetics/genomics, pharmacology, DNA repair and oncogene action. Our clinical science covers each cancer type; has a strong focus in clinical trials of new diagnostic and therapeutic approaches, and in correlative laboratory studies. Our work is supported by a portfolio of peer-reviewed grants, industrial agreements and research endowments.

Bioinformatician/Research Data Analyst 1

Situated in Stanford’s dynamic research environment, our highly collaborative clinical translational research program, led by Jennifer Caswell-Jin, MD, is affiliated with the Department of Medicine (Division of Oncology) at Stanford University Medical Center as well as the Stanford Cancer Institute. We are seeking a research analyst 1 to join our group as a bioinformatician and manager of computational data and analytics. Our research program aims to advance the field of precision oncology in breast cancer through integration of state-of-the-art multi-omics technologies, translational clinical trials, and population science.

The successful candidate will work closely with faculty, post-doctoral research fellows, graduate students, and research coordinators to analyze and interpret large datasets. He/she will work with a variety of data types, developing bioinformatic and statistical methods for whole genome/exome sequencing, RNA-sequencing, single-cell, and spatial data on breast tumors. Projects will cross the spectrum from analysis of vast previously collected datasets to in-depth analyses of carefully curated retrospective cohorts to real-time analyses of clinical trials in process. He/she will have the opportunity to develop and lead his/her own projects in areas of interest. This is a fantastic opportunity for a bioinformatician or computational genomic scientist to help build a translational research program with significant opportunities for scholarship.

The position may be either on-campus (at Stanford University in Stanford, California), remote, or hybrid.
 

Duties include:

  • Collect, manage and clean datasets.
  • Employ new and existing tools to interpret, analyze, and visualize multivariate relationships in data.
  • Create databases and reports, develop algorithms and statistical models, and perform statistical analyses appropriate to data and reporting requirements.
  • Use system reports and analyses to identify potentially problematic data, make corrections, and determine root cause for data problems from input errors or inadequate field edits, and suggest possible solutions.
  • Develop reports, charts, graphs and tables for use by investigators and for publication and presentation.
  • Collaborate with faculty and research staff on data collection and analysis methods.
  • Provide documentation based on audit and reporting criteria to investigators and research staff.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE (REQUIRED):

  • Bachelor's degree or a combination of education and relevant experience. Experience in a quantitative discipline such as economics, finance, statistics or engineering.


KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (REQUIRED):

  • Substantial experience with MS Office and analytical programs.
  • Strong writing and analytical skills.
  • Ability to prioritize workload.


PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Sitting in place at computer for long periods of time with extensive keyboarding/dexterity.
  • Occasionally use a telephone.
  • Rarely writing by hand.

This role is open to candidates anywhere in the United States. Stanford University has five Regional Pay Structures. The compensation for this position will be based on the location of the successful candidate.

The expected pay range for this position is $52,000 to $93,000 per annum / hour. Stanford University provides pay ranges representing its good faith estimate of what the university reasonably expects to pay for a position. The pay offered to a selected candidate will be determined based on factors such as (but not limited to) the scope and responsibilities of the position, the qualifications of the selected candidate, departmental budget availability, internal equity, geographic location and external market pay for comparable jobs.
