Senior Manager, Data Engineering
As the Sr Manager of Data Engineering at CAVA, you will play a pivotal role in shaping the future of our big data landscape, specifically using Databricks as a core platform. You will be responsible for leading a team of talented data engineers in designing, developing, and maintaining a robust and scalable big data infrastructure on Databricks that empowers data-driven decision making across the organization. You will be tasked with leading the centralization of our data assets and supporting the engineering of data product all to enable future use case for data science and engineering.
What You’ll Do:
- Provide strategic direction and vision for the big data engineering team, aligning it with overall business goals.
- Oversee the design, development, and implementation of big data pipelines for data ingestion, transformation, and analytics.
- Lead the selection and implementation of big data technologies and tools (Hadoop, Spark, Kafka, etc.).
- Ensure the big data infrastructure is secure, scalable, and fault-tolerant.
- Champion data governance best practices and data quality initiatives.
- Manage and mentor a team of data engineers, fostering a culture of collaboration and continuous learning.
- Partner with data scientists, analysts, and business stakeholders to understand their needs and translate them into actionable data solutions.
- Stay up to date on the latest big data trends and technologies, and identify opportunities for innovation.
- Lead teams to accomplish priorities and initiatives with the impact for the guest in mind
- Effectively communicate goals, priorities, and action items to direct reports; actively give feedback on progress updates
- Conduct impactful and meaningful DE&I conversations within team and organization
- Create opportunities for Team Members to grow in their roles and progress into higher roles in the organization
- Execute effective decision-making skills to led team to succeed
- Oversee innovative solutions proposed by direct reports
- Maintain emotional stability in stressful situations; lead by example for how our team should handle adversity
- Abide by policies and procedures that support the service mindset
- Manage timeline expectations within and across teams, deliver on our responsibilities accordingly

The Qualifications:
- Minimum 8+ years of experience in big data engineering leadership.
- Proven experience in designing, developing, and deploying big data pipelines and architectures.
- In-depth knowledge of big data technologies (Hadoop, Spark, Kafka, etc.) and distributed processing frameworks.
- Strong understanding of data governance, data security, and data quality principles.
- Excellent communication, collaboration, and leadership skills.
- Experience managing and motivating a team of technical professionals.
- A results-oriented mindset with a passion for building high-performing teams.
- Proven experience working with large scale data assets (1petabyte +)
- In-depth knowledge of Databricks (Spark, Delta Lake, MLflow, etc.) and its capabilities for big data processing, storage, and machine learning.
- Experience managing and motivating a team of technical professionals with a focus on Databricks expertise.
- A results-oriented mindset with a passion for building high-performing teams and maximizing the value of Databricks.
- Occasional Travel Required
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to maintain stationary position to be able to operate a computer and other office equipment
- Must be able to identify, analyze and assess details
- For certain positions, must be able to occasionally move or transport items up to 50 pounds
- Ability to communicate with others and exchange information accurately and effectively
- Constantly positions self and move about to support ordinary restaurant or food production support or office operations, as applicable
- Ability to work in a constant state of alertness and in a safe manner
