About the role:

The Samsara Data Engineering team builds core infrastructure to enable the business to make data-driven products and decisions. As a Senior Data Engineer you will contribute to a scalable and reliable data environment to meet the data needs of everyone at Samsara. You will work closely with scientists as well as full-stack, firmware, and platform teams to deliver an architecture, pipelines, data sets, and relevant software.

This role can be office-based or fully remote in the US and Canada.

In this role, you will: 

• Contribute to a comprehensive data model and supporting architecture (including APIs and other relevant software)
• Work with petabyte-scale data from the Samsara products, including camera and sensor devices. Be responsible for data pipelines, primarily in SparkSQL and PySpark to move that data. 
• Stay connected to industry and academic research and adopt novel technology that suits Samsara’s needs
• Champion, role model, and embed Samsara’s cultural principles (Focus on Customer Success, Build for the Long Term, Adopt a Growth Mindset, Be Inclusive, Win as a Team) as we scale globally and across new offices

Minimum requirements for the role:

• A post-secondary degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics or other relevant field
• 5+ years experience as a Data Engineer
• Experience with large-scale data models
• A strong understanding of SWE foundations
• Expert experience in Spark, SQL, Scala, Python, and other relevant technologies

An ideal candidate also has:

• Masters or higher in Computer Engineering or other related field
• 8+ years experience on data engineering focused teams
• Experience with Databricks
• AWS knowledge and expertise (S3, Lambda, SQS, Kinesis, Step Functions)
• Familiarity using Terraform
