We are seeking a Principal Data Analytics Consultant to join our growing team to support our evaluations of providers’ performance on cost, quality, and patient experience.
In this position, you will play a key role in enabling the Surest benefit plan by supporting the ongoing improvement and communication of Surest’s provider performance evaluations. The Principal Data Consultant – Provider Performance will support the optimization of some of Surest’s key differentiating assets around evaluating providers and setting distinct member copays while collaborating with other areas across the organization that leverage the provider performance evaluations. This work will include analyzing provider network data, claims data and outputs from the Surest provider performance evaluation pipeline. This position will develop materials that support Surest work with external entities such as demonstrating Surest capabilities for regulators as a part of Surest fully-insured expansion and supporting claims audits for self-insured ASO clients.

Primary Responsibilities:
- Design and implement analyses to understand the impact of Surest provider performance approaches on member behavior and plan costs
- Identify potential enhancements and optimizations to the current provider performance evaluation work that can improve the alignment of its outputs to business objectives and member needs
- Collaborate with Data Science and Dev teams to design and implement feature enhancements that realize those identified optimizations
- Support work around increasing Surest’s integration with the broader UnitedHealthcare organization regarding provider performance and network contracting
- Support the creation and delivery of dashboards, reporting and communication materials that articulate Surest’s provider performance evaluation work to providers and other stakeholders
- Support responding to custom analytic requests and questions from clients, providers and other internal or external stakeholders

Required Qualifications:
- 6+ years of business or data analysis experience
- 3+ years working healthcare administrative data (e.g. claims, enrollment, provider directory)
- 3+ years working with relational databases using SQL or Python
- Intermediate level experience with Excel and developing financial modeling
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with business intelligence tools (i.e. Looker, Tableau, Power BI)
- Experience with SQL and relational database pipelines and tools (e.g. Databricks and Ascend)
- Experience with Excel and developing business intelligence reporting to support strategy development
- Experience with delivering presentations to executive level personnel
- Knowledge and experience in a healthcare environment with HIPAA requirements
- Deep understanding of health care industry concepts (encounters, episodes, members, cost of care, benefit administration, etc.)
- Working knowledge of clinical data domains and code sets (CPT, ICD, DRG, etc.)
- Working knowledge of provider directory data
- Proximity to San Francisco (CA), Minneapolis (MN) or New York City (NY)
