BitSight’s Data Science team works on a wide variety of issues related to Bitsight’s product suite. The ML, AI and Automation data science team develops and supports automated and semi-automated workflows, services and product features that support all facets of entity and asset management. We are looking for a manager for this team who is passionate about team building and building and delivering products and services.

Responsible for

Delivery

  • Lead a team of Data Scientists and Engineers within an agile product development framework, enabling them to deliver value iteratively and continuously to Bitsight’s product suite in collaboration with the Engineering, Product Management, and Security Research teams.

  • Participate in or lead complex efforts using agile project management framework and tooling such as CRISP-DM and Confluence, from scoping and task break-down through to delivery and maintenance, while keeping a healthy and engaged team.

  • 50% prototype and delivery activities at the Principal level while role modeling activities such as:  prototyping, architecting and developing production-level code bases and components of operationalized ML and AI systems; structured collection and collation of training and test data; conducting code, design, and test suite reviews; troubleshooting and debugging; ML/AI drift monitoring and alerting; and other technical tasks.

People

  • Guide professional development of direct reports by setting clear goals and encouraging a growth mindset

  • Hold effective 1:1 meetings oriented around reports' career goals and the Data Science career ladder

  • Solicit and deliver candid and constructive feedback

  • Create a positive team culture aligned with our team and company values

  • Hold difficult conversations and mediate interpersonal conflict.

Organization

  • Advocate for and implement best-practices for: software development, process, data collection, automation, product and system architecture, and ML/AI/Automation system health.

  • Develop technical strategy to guide short and long-term plans.

  • Partner with other leaders as we craft and evolve an agile, learning organization while nurturing a healthy, collaborative engineering culture in-line with our values.

Requirements

  • Full software lifecycle experience with ML- and AI-based services and full stack applications (proof of concept, implementation, operationalization, sustenance, maintenance, drift monitoring and refresh, and sunset and replacement) of 3 or more services in an SaaS environment such as classification systems, recommender engines, and search engines for fully-automated workflows or semi-automated manual workflows.

  • Development and management of proofs of concept, shared tools and libraries, and production-level code bases and libraries for feature extraction, feature engineering, model file generation, model file management, and more.

  • Expert with Python data science (applied ML) tool set; NLP and text mining tool set (e.g. sed, awk, regex); complex and extremely large data; structured and unstructured data (graph data a plus); one or more Linux variants, shell, and script programming (e.g. sh, bash, csh, zsh);  job scheduling and orchestration tools (e.g. cron, jenkins, airflow, chef).

  • Minimum 3 years experience with AWS cloud technologies and small and large scale data processing stack (S3, EMR, SageMaker, TensorFlow, Spark, Hadoop, Athena, postgresql)

  • Strong competency with software development and ML frameworks: SDLC and software project management, and supporting tools and frameworks including JIRA, confluence, git and CRISP-DM.

  • MS required. PhD preferred Machine Learning, Engineering, Statistics, Applied Mathematics, Computer Science or other ML/AI Applied Science Education

  • Able to read, learn, and evangelize ML, ranking, recommender, optimization, and data mining algorithms and methodologies from the literature

  • An interest in cyber security

The anticipated hiring base salary range for this position is US$190,000 to $210,00 annually for US-based employees.  This range reflects the minimum and maximum target for new hire salaries for the position across all US locations, is based on a full-time work schedule, and is Bitsight’s good faith estimate as of the date of this posting.  Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.In addition to base salary, this role is eligible for participation in a bonus or commission plan and an equity grant.  Bitsight also offers a competitive benefits package, including but not but limited to medical, dental, and vision insurance; paid parental leave; flexible time off; a 401(k) plan with employee and company contribution opportunities; life and disability insurance; and tuition reimbursement.
