Founding AI/ML Engineer

As our first engineering hire focused on Artificial Intelligence, you will have a unique opportunity to shape the technical direction of the company, define best practices, and build high-impact AI-driven solutions from the ground up. You will work closely with cross-functional teams to translate complex healthcare challenges into innovative products that leverage advanced AI techniques.

You will:

  • Collaborate with leadership and stakeholders to establish a long-term AI vision and roadmap that aligns with our mission.
  • Design and implement end-to-end AI systems that incorporate machine learning models, natural language processing (NLP), or other relevant AI technologies.
  • Create predictive models, recommendation engines, and other data-driven solutions that address clinical and operational needs in healthcare.
  • Serve as the technical lead for all AI projects, providing guidance and mentorship to future hires in data science, machine learning, and AI.
  • Utilize advanced data processing and storage technologies (e.g., Apache Spark, Apache Iceberg) to efficiently manage large datasets while ensuring data integrity and security.
  • Implement A/B testing and statistical modeling to validate new approaches and continuously improve model performance.
  • Design and develop AI tools that can be called via API or through batch transformations for large datasets. 
  • Work closely with Product Managers, Engineering partners, and Business stakeholders to understand requirements, define success metrics, and ensure seamless integration of AI solutions into products.

We are looking for people who have:

  • Educational Background: Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Statistics, or a related field; a Ph.D. or equivalent experience is a plus.
  • 5+ years of hands-on experience in developing AI models using techniques such as deep learning (e.g., CNNs, RNNs) and NLP. Experience in building intelligent systems that leverage various AI methodologies is essential.
  • Strong understanding of machine learning concepts, algorithms, and techniques. Hands-on experience with ML frameworks such as PyTorch or TensorFlow is preferred.
  • Experience in building data pipelines for large-scale data processing. Proficiency in SQL for extracting and manipulating data from databases or data lakehouses is required.
  • Demonstrated success in deploying and monitoring ML models in production environments while following MLOps best practices.
  • Solid understanding of cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, or Azure), containerization (Docker, Kubernetes), and CI/CD pipelines.
  • Excellent ability to communicate progress, trade-offs, and results to team members across functions.

You may also have:

  • Knowledge of healthcare data standards (e.g., FHIR, HL7v2) is a plus but not mandatory.
  • Work with the Data Insights team to build and implement deployment processes for both internal and external analytics software and products
