THE OPPORTUNITY: 

As the Engineering Manager for Data Products, you will be joining the newly formed Data Product team within the ActBlue Technical Services (ATS) Data Department. Your primary role will be to develop, maintain, and support the data platform(s) that serve the ActBlue application. The platform will serve up real-time aggregations that power user-facing dashboards, predictions that drive personalized user experiences, and eventually much more. You will also work with ActBlue leadership to build reporting structures, manage Data team members, and collaborate across departments to deliver projects incrementally and on time. You will report to the Director of Engineering, Data.

This role will serve as a player/coach within the Data Department and Data Product subteam. You will work in tandem with other managers to ensure teams have clarity of vision and alignment on solutions. You will also develop processes that enable continuous improvement in the team’s functioning.

WHAT YOU WILL DO: 

  • Serve as a leader in the Data Department, providing input on department strategy and goals.
  • Manage and oversee the work of the Data Product subteam.
  • Collaborate with Product Management to build a prioritized backlog.
  • Manage the delivery of data products with efficiency and a high standard of quality.
  • Maintain data products in production, ensuring they continue to meet the needs of our application and our users.
  • Lead and coach continual process improvement in the Data Product team.
  • Mentor and support team members in their professional goals.
  • Promote psychological safety in the team, as well as in the larger department and across ActBlue.
  • Coordinate with ActBlue leadership to establish measurable goals and consistent metrics.
  • Work collaboratively within the department and across ActBlue to help achieve organizational goals.
  • Assess knowledge gaps in ActBlue’s workforce and strategize filling data needs that will further institutional knowledge and information sharing.
  • Direct project management and delegate large, complex projects as assigned.

WHAT YOU BRING:

  • At least 5-7 years of experience in data engineering or related roles.
  • At least 3 years of staff management experience is preferred.
  • Experience collaborating and building relationships with teams across an organization.
  • Experience creating robust work plans and executing large-scale project management.
  • Proficiency in SQL.
  • Experience with data pipelines and data engineering technologies.
  • Experience with real-time analytics.
  • Experience with serving ML models.
  • Experience maintaining and deploying server-side web applications.
  • Experience with security, reliability, scaling, monitoring, and other aspects of production platforms.
  • Familiarity with either R or Python.
  • Ability to communicate technical concepts to a non-technical audience.

  • You’ve worked with ML platforms such as Sagemaker, Tensorflow, and Modelbit.
  • You’ve worked with real-time analytics platforms such as Clickhouse, Rockset, and Timescale.
  • You’ve worked with Business Intelligence, and/or Data Science tools.

LOCATION AND COMPENSATION: 

This posting is for a full-time, salaried position. This can be a fully remote position, or can work out of the ActBlue’s office located in Davis Square in Somerville, MA, just a few blocks from the MBTA Red Line.  ActBlue is authorized to support remote work in these states: Arizona, California, Colorado, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kentucky, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, South Dakota, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, Virginia, Washington, Washington D.C., and Wisconsin.

Salary Range Details:

Salary Range: $173,676 - $192,209

ActBlue is committed to consistent compensation practices across our organization.  Final salary offers will take into account factors such as candidate experience, interview performance and current team salary parity.
