The shop recommendations team leverages personalization algorithms to power the Shop experience, which involves a combination of modeling style, outfit recommendations, and expanding Stitch Fix’s total addressable market. In doing so, this team builds capabilities that explore a client’s stylistic preferences and then use those to produce rankings over best items and outfits in real-time.

About the Role

In this role, you will contribute to building the future of personalized apparel shopping: we are moving beyond the paradox of choice to generate and present unique content to clients tailored to their particular needs at any given time. Whether it’s for clients searching for an item for a special occasion, discovering something that fits their existing wardrobe, or just wanting to get inspired - Stitch Fix’s Shop aims to do it all while personalizing styles for the client’s aesthetic, size, fit and price comfort zone.

Search in Shop is a new, key focus area for Stitch Fix, and we’re aiming to enable client exploration in an intuitive and elegant manner. Stitch Fix’s Shop is a growing and exciting area for the business in which you will get the opportunity to lead work cross-functionally with Strategy, Product, Merchandising, Marketing, and Engineering partners to build these capabilities from the ground up! 

You're excited about this opportunity because you will…

• Solve problems related to multimodal search, the balance between query and user relevance, recommendation explainability, query suggestion, latent representations, etc.
• Experiment and build new 0 to 1 algorithmic capabilities that deliver personalized content to clients
• Develop, lead, and execute the strategic vision of client-facing search
• Productionize models and systems partnering with our very helpful data platform team for real-time applications
• Leverage unique data about our clients, our merchandise, and their interactions across all Stitch Fix surfaces 
• Work with our product, product design, and engineering teams to create roadmaps for developing new client products, user features, data flywheels, and infrastructure

We’re excited about you because…

• You have a solid understanding in designing and implementing search, information retrieval, or natural language processing systems AND want to grow even deeper in the field
• You have led end-to-end machine learning and data projects, from inception to production and are proficient in deploying apps in Python
• You have a degree in a quantitative field such as Computer Science, Statistics, Physics or a related field.
• You have strong cross-functional, communication skills that help simplify and move complex problems forward with business partners 
• You are a compassionate teamplayer and you see your growth and success entangled with the growth and success of your peers
• You are innovative and inspired to take on new challenges and you do not shy away from potential failure
• You think about ethics in AI, the impact of machine learning on society, and want to bring that to bear in our work here
