About the opportunity

Ontra is seeking a Data Scientist, Product Analytics reporting to our Senior Manager of Data on our Research and Development team.

The role is a great opportunity for someone looking to lead data science and analytics projects that support our growing Data Team’s efforts to enable data-driven decision-making across the Ontra organization. These include helping to build out our experimentation platform, leading small teams to develop analyses to improve product features, and improving our data infrastructure.

The Data Scientist will work with business and product stakeholders to identify areas where data insights can provide business value and will devise data projects that address those needs. When executing on these projects, the Data Scientist will be both hands-on and a technical lead: contributing and guiding other Data Analysts’ efforts to uncover valuable insights from our legal data sets that inform product development and business strategy. As you combine your data expertise with growing knowledge of Ontra’s products and business, you also will lead efforts to define and track metrics that drive business improvements.

If you are ready to dive into data sets to inform product decisions, we’d love to get to know you!

What you’ll do

  • Provide analytics expertise: Build thorough understanding of Ontra’s datasets and develop metrics and insights using SQL and python/R that address product and business needs

  • Democratize data insights: Perform statistical analyses and create informative data visualizations using Snowflake/Snowsight, Looker, and python/R libraries that deliver value to stakeholders across the organization

  • Inform strategy: Collaborate with product and business leaders to develop metrics and dashboards that support company objectives and key results (OKRs)

  • Serve as a subject-matter expert: Provide guidance both to stakeholders on how to use data in decision making

  • Be a technical mentor: Provide technical leadership to junior Data Analysts to help them deliver on projects and grow their skill sets

What you’ll bring

  • Expertise in exploratory data analysis: 5+ years experience manipulating data sets, navigating ambiguity, creating data visualizations and delivering insights that inform business decision making

  • Fluency in SQL: can construct complex joins, filters and aggregations to appropriately answer questions of the data and advise on how data can be stored to support analyses

  • Intermediate scripting: Experience using a scripting language (python, R, etc.) to perform analytical work, building toward python expertise

  • Effective communication: Excellent communication and problem solving skills and ability to effectively collaborate with functional leadership across the organization

  • Detail-oriented mindset: A strong attention to detail and a well-reasoned sense of skepticism toward the results of analyses
