At Stitch Fix, we’re transforming the way people find what they love. A core challenge of personalization at scale is growing and developing a successful inventory even as fashion and our clients’ tastes evolve. The Style Discovery team is focused on this challenge, helping to transform and scale Stitch Fix’s visibility into what people will love. To do this, we use embeddings, deep learning, inventory simulations, and creative approaches to machine learning integration, to discover the best merchandise for our clients. 

About the role

We’re looking for someone to join us for a 10 week duration over the summer and uncover emerging trends in personalization. This will mean using techniques in natural language processing to build a text corpus based on how fashion and our clients’ tastes are evolving. Next, you’ll use state of the art Language Models (LMs) to parse, classify, and cluster this data, ultimately uncovering the ‘state of the art’ in trends. Finally, you’ll have the opportunity to get your prototype into production and to share your new knowledge across the broader algorithms team. This won’t be a lonely endeavor though; we value ownership, but we also love to collaborate.

• Use Python and SQL to build a text corpus of millions of text entries
• Deploy state-of-the-art techniques in natural language processing and machine learning to uncover emerging trends  
• Develop your applied machine learning and software engineering skills
• Work with a cross-functional team to communicate how your findings can help to drive value and to enable personalization at scale. 

We're excited about you because you...

• Are a student currently enrolled in a quantitative field, such as computer science, statistics, electrical engineering, mathematics, etc.
• Are proficient in Python and SQL but are still hungry to learn
• Have an interest in computational linguistics, natural language processing, or generative modeling 
• Have strong grasp of basic principles of machine learning 
• Have an interest in scientific communication
• Are driven by a hunger to make a tangible business impact
• Have an affinity with software engineering, are familiar with Python, and can demonstrate an ability to quickly get up to speed working with new technologies
