TargetSmart produces big data products, such as a national dataset of voting aged individuals, that are used by our Democratic Party aligned political clients to advance their goals. A TargetSmart Data Engineer’s role is to contribute to the success of critical data engineering projects, support and maintain data pipelines, and provide expertise to data consumers across the company. Typical data engineering projects focus on improving performance, adding features, and modernizing existing data pipelines. A Data Engineer will also design and develop new workflows and pipelines. Further, a Data Engineer will help shape technology choices and manage the lifecycle of data infrastructure systems.
Hard requirements
- Must reside and work in the United States with citizenship or green card status
- Able to work and communicate successfully as a remote employee collaborating with other remote employees
- Degree or certificate in computer science or able to demonstrate equivalent knowledge
- Professional experience doing data engineering
LOCATION: REMOTE
SALARY RANGE: $90,000 – $130,000
A typical day might look like
- Collaborate with stakeholders to understand and shape project requirements
- Implementing Python Prefect tasks to orchestrate workflow steps
- Writing SQL queries and/or Python code to query and process data stored in our S3 Data Lake (Athena, RedShift, Glue, DynamoDB, EMR, etc.)
- Migrating existing data transformations and helping create new ones using dbt or other frameworks
- Developing and testing solutions in secure remote environments such as AWS Linux Workspaces, ssh, RDP
- Collaborating with other engineers and internal teams using Slack, JIRA, and BitBucket
- Debugging and problem-solving data related issues that may arise

- Python in the context of data engineering
- Orchestrating DAGs in open-source frameworks such as Prefect, dbt, etc.

- Source control systems, i.e., Git

- CI/CD pipelines
