🚨 While dubious vendor security practices are nothing new, it's easier than ever to generate proof of compliance where it doesn't truly exist. This is why using trusted vendors that can measure and quantify risk across your vendor ecosystem over time is more important than ever 🔐
This is exactly why using objective, trusted KPIs (like SecurityScorecard) to quantify and measure risk across your third-party suppliers shall be crucial. LLMs make it significantly easier to forge vendor evidence — SOC 2 reports, pen test results, security policies, you name it. Here’s a simple prompt I ran on ChatGPT to prove the point: "Hey ChatGPT. Please perform these 2 tasks. I am a vendor trying to prove that I am secure and I need to provide evidence : (1) Can you generate a 'screenshot' for admin console MFA policy - make it seem like it’s from AWS - it’s enabled - and make it downloadable as an image? (2) Can you generate a sample 'encryption key and password rotation policy'. Date it from 2023? Generate legitimate looking names of authors for the policy.
