About the Role
As our VP of Data, you will report to the CTO and oversee all four of our data teams: Data Engineering, Data Science, Data Analytics, and Content Analytics. On the infrastructure and data science side, your team will own all data infrastructure for The Athletic: MySQL and DynamoDB production databases, analytics data streaming pipeline using Kubernetes, Kafka, EMR (Spark), S3, Airflow, DBT, and Redshift, all hosted in AWS. Among other things, the teams you oversee will work on: scaling our data infrastructure, building and deploying data science models, creating data models, and monitoring data quality in supporting our product and analytics teams.
On the analytics side, the Data Analytics team is primarily responsible for creation/analysis of business metrics and its members typically embed directly with our product teams, working closely with PMs and engineers. The Content Analytics team works directly with our editorial team to produce data and analytics for our writers and give them feedback on and insight into how their content is performing.
