Senior Software Engineer, Data Platform

Slack is looking for a senior software engineer to join the Data Platform team. This team is responsible for growing the trust and usage of metrics by improving the consistency, accuracy, and velocity through tooling. We build and maintain a reliable, trusted, and managed platform to enable standardized and consistent set of metrics. You will be working cross-functionally with business domain experts, analytics, and engineering teams to design and implement our Metrics platform and Data Warehouse model. You will design, implement and scale data pipelines that transform billions of records into actionable data models that enable data insights.

We are looking for people who are product-focused, have deep technical skills and are comfortable contributing to a growing analytics platform. You are independent and passionate about having a huge impact at Slack. You will translate complex business requirements into scalable technical solutions to enable data analysis to support the business.
In this role, you will help empower the entire Slack product org to become more data-driven. You will collaborate and enable product owners to configure key product and business metrics with centralized governance for maintaining high level of quality & desired landing time SLA

What you will be doing:

• Design and drive execution of our metrics framework and platform roadmap to build highly resilient, scalable and reliable means of data consumption to work well within SLA limits
• Partner with advanced users of data, Analysts and Product teams to understand current and future data needs around metrics and tracking/rollout of the same
• Partner with business domain experts, data analysts and engineering teams to build foundational data sets that are trusted, well understood, aligned with business strategy and enable self-service
• Find potential opportunities for building new tools to scale and provide self-service solutions
• Focus on release automation, making use of technologies like Docker, Kubernetes for the CI/CD pipeline
• Identify, document and promote data engineering methodologies throughout Slack

What you should have:

• You have 2+ years of experience working in data architecture, data modeling, master data management, metadata management
• You have demonstrated skills with either Python or Java programming language
• Ability to lead technical architecture discussions and help drive technical decisions within your team.
• Write understandable, testable code with an eye towards maintainability.
• Experience using Big data technologies like Spark, Kafka, Airflow, EMR, Hive, Presto etc
• Technical knowledge and proficiency with SQL to perform data acquisition, segmentation, and aggregation from multifaceted data sources
• Experience building web applications professionally is a big plus
• Excellent written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills, and ability to optimally collaborate with technical and business partners
• A Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering or a related field, or equivalent training, fellowship, or work experience

For Colorado-based roles, the base salary hiring range for this position is $156,800 to $215,600.

Compensation offered will be determined by factors such as location, level, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.
