Position Summary

The Data Engineer will take the lead inleads designing, building, and maintaining of structured databases. This position cCreates and implements a design for the storage and maintenance of data solutions. This position is alsoAdditionally, is responsible for participating in the development and deployment activities for those systems. Creates scripts for data maintenance and bug fixes. Works with various teams to provide information, knowledge, coordination, and tools that support the growth and continued success of National University.

Essential Functions:

  • Develop and maintain data extraction, transfer, and loading (ETL or ELT) from various sources using Python, SSIS or other tools.
  • Implement appropriate security measures throughout the data pipeline.
  • Responsible for maintaining metadata management and data quality activities so that data are accurate, reliable, and documented.
  • Provide support as needed to production systems ensuring that both internal and external client’s needs are met.
  • Provide reliable and timely data that supports strategic planning, student success initiates, and educational and operational effectiveness.
  • Installation, configuration, and maintenance of Microsoft SQL server including setting and managing system controls.
  • In collaboration with the stakeholder teams, gather business and technical requirements to design database schemas for new SQL databases that support business initiatives.
  • Create extract, transform, and load procedures to automate population of structured databases containing healthcare data, including medical claims.
  • Implement procedures to ensure data cleanliness and integrity.
  • Use visualization tools to develop BI reports that address critical business needs.
  • Work with NU staff to understand data requirements for existing and future projects and provide self-service reporting that addresses those needs.
  • Maintain data storage compliance with regulatory and security guidelines.
  • Maintain awareness of industry best practices. Share technical expertise and recommend tools and methodologies for improving data management and utilization.

Requirements:

Education & Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree required; preferably in Data Science, Computer Science, Statistics, Engineering, or other quantitative fields. 
  • A minimum of three (3) years of experience as a Data Engineer, Systems Analyst, Database Administrator, or similar role, required.
  • Strong SQL knowledge, experience as a SQL database administrator.
  • Experience extracting data from a variety of relational and non-relational sources.
  • Experience building useful BI reports (Tableau, Power BI, etc.).
  • Familiarity and experience with Azure and specifically Azure Synapse including Dedicated SQL Pools and Data Factory a plus.

Competencies/Technical/Functional Skills:

  • Knowledge of scripting languages (R, Python, Java, etc.).
  • Familiarity with healthcare terminology and data formats.
  • Ability to participate as an active team member of the team and organization and work toward a common goal. Contributes fully to the team effort and plays an integral part in the smooth running of teams without necessarily taking the lead.

  • Intermediate use of computers and Microsoft Office Suite Applications such as Word, Excel, Power Point, Outlook.  Experience using Student Information System (SIS).

Candidate receiving offers will be offered a salary/pay rate commensurate with experience that vary based on a candidate’s qualifications, skills, and competencies.  Absent exceptional circumstances, candidates will be offered a salary within this range for this position. The minimum salary will be offered based on the minimum exemption threshold based on state of residency. Compensation Range:

Annual Salary: $63,720.00 - $86,020.00
