About the Team
Interflow is a team of 12 highly collaborative, engaged, and motivated technologists responsible for implementing core services that are leveraged by other teams at College Board through the lifecycle of a student’s digital assessment, from registration to score reporting. We constantly seek out, experiment with, and harness new technologies to build quality products that deliver comprehensive assessments to the millions of students we serve. With the digital SAT and PSAT administration, our team continues to have new opportunities to work on challenging initiatives that are vital to our organization’s mission to connect students to college success and opportunity.
About the Opportunity
As a Data Engineer, you will be responsible for understanding our business use cases, extracting the data using SQL and building reports for our digital test administration. You will get the chance to be a part of a team that is in the limelight, collaborating closely with our Digital Assessment and Bluebook teams. Because of your ability to comprehend data and begin to develop insights, students from around the world can have a smooth testing experience and we can continue improving for generations to come.
In this role, you will:
Extract, Analyze, and Report (80%)
Develop complex SQL scripts to extract data in Athena, Timestream and Redshift
Access, trace, analyze and remediate data issues or inconsistencies through leveraging SQL and applicable AWS tools such as Redshift and Athena
Apply business logic to retrieve or change data sets from gaining a good understanding of the data structure and definitions
Trace changes in data and nail down edge cases for data scenarios
Design and manage information systems, conduct analysis, and generate accurate and comprehensive reports on operational data
Automate the data extract using Python and visualize these on charts and graphs using Tableau/Quicksight
Follow best practices around coding, version control, testing, and automated build processes
Explore and engage in opportunities to be hands on with new AI, data engineering tools and ML technologies available in the current market.
Support (10%)
Support peak time test days with insight into issues and resolutions needed for test administration
Troubleshoot and resolve application access issues, email communications, and application features
Play supporting role in understanding business needs in context, from a user perspective
Communicate to both the business and technical team members about the interpretation of the data
Provide crucial feedback for the design and implementation of features after reviewing requirements
Document (10%)
Develop and document in the review of requirements, data mappings, database specifications and other artifacts
Support architects, leads and product owners to ensure that all aspects of the information analysis and requirements gathering process are completed with the highest degree of accuracy and quality
Ensure that data artifacts, design and reports details are fully documented
About You
You have:
Ideally 1+ years of experience in a professional software development environment performing data engineering type of work with a high proficiency in writing SQL queries for complex data extracts
A bachelor’s degree in data science, computer science, engineering, or an analytical field is preferred
Experience or exposure working with large sets of data
Working knowledge of Python and some experience with visualizing data using Tableau, QuickSight or other BI tools is preferred
Experience with AWS or other Cloud Services (Athena, TimeStream, Redshift, QuickSight, S3, and/or DynamoDB are especially desired)
Strong analytical thinking, critical analysis skills, and structured problem-solving ability
Ability and enthusiasm to learn new technologies and desire to continuously improve
Great communication along with practical decision-making skills and is a believer in good documentation
Strong interest to learn and implement AI tools
Ability to handle multiple projects and assignments simultaneously and effectively in a cross-functional team environment
Strong ability to understand and internalize the big-picture and broader implications of design and development decisions
Excellent interpersonal and collaboration skills with the ability to work with a diverse set of colleagues, across functions and from different organizations
Ability to set priorities, be a self-starter, work independently and attain goals
Ability to work on call and off hours 10-12 times during the year to support peak times for our domestic and international digital assessment administration
You must be authorized to work in the US

The hiring range for a new employee in this position is $100,000 to $109,000. College Board differentiates salaries by location so where you live will narrow the portion of this range in which you can expect a salary.
