How you’ll contribute:
As a Data Associate (DA) you will be responsible for executing projects involving data profiling and assessment to interpret data and analyze results using statistical techniques to provide ongoing informational, descriptive, diagnostic evaluations and data stories. Identify, analyze, and interpret trends or patterns in complex data sets, work with management to prioritize business and information needs. As needed, the DA will develop requirements, data definition, flow, mappings and lineage, and specifications to model and implement data collection, optimization, and delivery solutions, data analytics and other strategies that optimize statistical efficiency and quality.
The Data Associate (DA) requires a deep and broad appreciation for what is possible and what will soon be possible by taking full advantage of data. The DA will work with Business and IT Solutions leaders, Architecture, Business Analysts, Interface Analysts, and Data Developers to drive the definition and implementation of data driven and analytics solutions, platforms, and services that encompass data critical to the business.
Key Objectives:
- Provide analysis to inform the design and delivery of the data and analytics value-oriented outcomes, solutions, platforms, and to provide services to continuously assess and generate insights to continuously improve operations, processes, and solutions.
- Work in a highly integrated fashion across data, data governance, & analytics teams, and partners to analyze, design, implement resilient data products and analytical solutions and drive data driven value-based outcomes.
- Enable and support the smooth transition of data and analytics solutions from inception through implementation and operationalization to ensure long-term stability and reliability in alignment with best in cost approaches and practices.
In this role, you’ll get to:
- Conduct full lifecycle analysis to include requirements, design, and other activities.
- Work closely with IT Solution Owners and Business Analysts to support data projects of varying degrees of scale
- Perform data profiling and analysis on internal and external data sets to inform requirements, perform testing, and support production processing.
- Analyze business requirements to define capabilities for data selection, transformation, collection and distribution.
- Develop impact analysis, data design, and perform data mapping based on interface requirements.
- Develop test scenarios for validating the quality of data capabilities.
- Perform testing necessary to validate that developed solutions align with defined business requirements.
- Contribute toward root cause analysis of data related defects.
- Work with Interface Analysts, Business Analysts, Architects, and Developers to synthesize raw data into actionable insights to drive business results.
- Identify key trends and opportunities for business teams and report the findings in a simple, compelling way.
- Determine what data will be valuable while collaborating with solution owners, business, data scientists, engineers, and other product managers to ensure that data will be accessible and usable for analysis, modeling, discovery and exploration, data quality governance, or any other data or analytics.
- Perform hands on data analyses, data profiling, and data assessment to develop understanding, narratives, and data flow using methods and tools, to translate for data scientists, engineers, designers, and other product managers to shape and drive solution delivery.
- Define and track metrics that demonstrate operational effectiveness and improvement opportunities achieved via data analysis activities.
- Work with Data Strategy & Governance to provide working knowledge of data and business understanding to operationalize data governance, meta data management, reference data management, and data quality.
- Collaborate with other areas that are sourcing data and consuming data to align expectations as part of developing requirements, creating and executing test plans and to effectively support production processing.
- Complete special projects as assigned by the manager and perform other duties as requested.
Additional Responsibilities
- Collaborate with a mix of resources across BHF, Systems Integration, and Platform vendor partners, and other programs and ensure teams have appropriate support to meet goals and ensure that project risks are identified, mitigated, and communicated to stakeholders
- Address and mitigate open security and risk items in conjunction with audit, compliance, and enterprise security.
- Identify structural and process improvement opportunities for modern development principles and methodologies.
We’re looking for people who have:
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Math, Data Analytics, Data Science, Software Development, IT, or similar field, is preferred, 0 to 3 years of experience.
- Ability to work within a project management framework, applied knowledge of statistics and experience using statistical packages for analyzing datasets and strong analytical skills with the ability to collect, organize, analyze, and disseminate significant amounts of information with attention to detail and accuracy.
- Working knowledge, experience, or technical expertise with data design and modeling, database design development, data mining and segmentation techniques, reporting, databases, programming will be considered as a plus.
- Working knowledge or some work experience in data analysis or the development of data requirements, data flow analysis, and data specifications, as well as hands on experience with data profiling and assessment.
- Ability to materially contribute to large, complex, multi-disciplinary systems implementation projects.
- Hands-on experience in data and business intelligence delivery including hands-on data analysis skills – roll up sleeves and work along with key stakeholders and subject matter experts to drive analytically driven value-based outcomes and solutions.
- Broad understanding of data technologies and their applied usage – These include enterprise data platforms (SAP HANA/BDS, Teradata), No SQL (DynamoDB, MongoDB, HBase), DBMS (SQL Server, Oracle), ETL (Informatica, Pentaho), Reporting (Business Objects, Power BI, MicroStrategy, etc.), work management systems (Jira), and languages (SQL, R, Python).
- Familiarity with a range of data management, Business Intelligence approaches and the latest, tools, approaches, techniques, and methodologies in data and analytics development management.
- Understanding and appreciation for both business and technology components of information management in insurance and financial services industry.
- Working knowledge or experience in project management, meeting aggressive deadlines and pivoting quickly when priorities change.
